Lieutenant Dan's Blog
Thank goodness, I haven't been this happy and relieved in years. First a little backstory is required to draw the circle.
My wife had a traumatic childhood and married a criminal her first go around. She wound up raising her four kids by herself from 1996 until I came along in 2003; just in time for the start of the teen years!
Fast forward to 2010...working at her job at the time, mass overtime and project management that kept her across the state a lot in 2009 and 2010. It was a bit of a strain, me at home with her/our two kids that were still home (the two rebels, of course), plus my son from my previous marriage. I even had a mini-breakdown in there. Anyway, my wife gets diagnosed for depression and starts meds.
That brings us to spring of 2011, and she breaks down completely. She had to take a medical disability leave from work and do a M-F outpatient program at a mental hospital for about three months. There they dealt with her childhood traumas and traumas involving her ex-husband. Diagnosed with mild bi-polar, depression, and PTSD.
She resumed work in late June but she was still fragile and completely burned out by the job. Her state of mind was so bad that she even became semi-paralyzed one day and I had to take her to the ER (it was a mental thing that affected her physically). She struggled though until November 2011 and then sent a letter of resignation to corporate...she could no longer physically or mentally do that job and had completely ceased to care as well.
My wife then tried to find work while I carried us financially (she couldn't draw UI because she quit) and finally got a paid internship in June 2012 that last about four months. Ironically enough, she also was begged by her former boss to do contract work to wrap up her project for the closing months of 2012, which she did and was fine with it with a fixed timeline and the pressure off.
She then went back to ITT for her second A.S. degree from them, this one in software development (first one was networking).
Now in January 2014 she finally got hired full-time at a company she really wanted to work for, and has been going through four interviews with four different department heads, starting last November! Man what a process.
I am so happy she got hired on before I did, since I'm 'new' unemployed as of December, and she's not been full-time since fall of 2011. It has been quite a ride for her, with some days where she didn't want to leave the bed, and most days not leave the house. It is hard to not get a complex that no one wants you or values you, on top of all that previous stuff I opened this blog with. Times have been up and down, good days and bad days and a lot of 'meh' days (for both of us), but now she's on point for a great career in her chosen field at her preferred employer.
So let me just say, 'Thank you, God!' and a huge pat on the back for her perseverance. She was way overdue for a break, someone to just give her a chance.
I still need a job and I'm working hard to that end, but we're gonna be okay; I really believe that now.

congrats.
question though, I thought ITT wasnt a reputable school (for profit). do you think she got hired because of this or because of her work experience?

Hey, thanks so much guys Mike and DJ, I'm ready for my turn soon!
Tril, ITT is reputable and she landed her first two jobs out of school with her first degree via ITT. They actually have a very solid placement program. This job she found on her own but ITT was always checking in with her and she had many leads from them but they didn't pan out in more recent time.

Congrats. I hope my wife can find something soon. She has been out of consistant work since 2012. She is also in the computer field as well. It is a hard road to travel. Please continue to keep my wife in your prayers and congrats again to your wife.

I don't know you, but this brought tears in my eyes, first sad ones and then joyful ones, I can relate to growing up a very traumatic life, and I'm Bi polar. It's so great you two stuck together through so much. Congrats to your wife on her new job, and hope you find one soon, and you will, cause you seem like a good person, and I believe when you're a good person, nice guys doesn't finish last! You will find a job soon, hang in there. GOD bless you and your wife and family, you deserve it. Peace And Blessings.

Videlsports and Dr Banner, thank you very much for your support and comments OS has been a crucial support system for me over the past five years, not so much in me directly airing what's going on in my life (only been doing that since I lost my job and another post or two a few months back in an appropriate thread) but just coming here for the fun and comraderie every day. It has been so important to help keep me on an even keel and make me laugh or smile every day.
So thank YOU, everyone responding to my blogs and everyone at OS!

I got my BA from ITT, there pretty good in job placement for graduates. It led to me having a pretty good career in the local hospital in the area I live in. Glad to hear about your wife

STLRams...yes, I've been impressed with how much in my wife's corner ITT has been the past couple of years, and also back in 2006 when she got her first significant jobs after her first degree. I like that they seem to support their students well, which you'd hope for with their tuition costs! Thanks!
HST, thank you very much. You are right, there are a lot of great souls in this community. I have made some good friends here and that has helped tremendously through the past few years.
